Auto & Design Magazine Published in both English and Italian, Auto & Design Magazine is one of the best authorities on the subject of automotive design and styling today. With a distinctly European focus, it is published bi-monthly and features articles on some of the best and most innovative work coming out of European design studios today. Unfortuantely for us here in North America, Auto & Design Magazine isn't easily found for sale. And when someone does find a bookstore or newstand that carries it, most are shocked at the cost - typical newstand price is just under $50Cdn+tax per issue. Annual subscriptions are available through the official Canadian distributor Speedimpex Distributing Canada, but the subscription rate isn't much cheaper than the newstand price (it just makes it easier to get the magazine). But if you are looking for indepth coverage of automotive design and styling activites going on in Europe today, and can afford (or should I say justify) the cost, then Auto & Design Magazine is definitely the ticket. If you would like to subscribe online to Auto & Design Magazine click here.

Car Styling Magazine Car Styling Magazine is published in both English and Japanese and is another fantastic regularly published magazine on the subject of automotive design. Just like Auto & Design Magazine, Car Styling is published on a bi-monthly basis (meaning 6 issues per year). But unlike Auto & Design. Car Styling attempts to cover a much broader scope. They have been known to feature everything from coverage of the various major autoshows, to import tuners like Wings West, and even tutorial segments on how to use Rhino 3D modeling software. And they don't just focus on all things Japanese either. They routinely cover non-Japanese manufacturers in almost every issue (their coverage of the McLaren F1 road car - issue #90 - is still one of the best I've ever seen on that vehicle), making Car Styling one of the absolute BEST resources of the automotive design industry available today. Unfortuantely, much like Auto & Design Magazine is almost imposible to find for sale in Canada on a newstand (I've personally NEVER seen it available anywhere), which means that most will have to subscribe in order to get it. Additionally, there are no official importers or distributors of the magazine here in Canada either, so the only way to subscribe is either through a US distributor (like Amazon.com), or through the publisher. The good news is that even after exchange, it is slightly less expensive to subscribe to than Auto & Design Magazine. If you can afford to subscribe to both Auto & Design Magazine and Car Styling Magazine, then I would personally advise that you get both. The combination of industry coverage provided by both magazines will guarantee that you will never miss a beat on what's going on in the studios around the world. But, if you can only afford (or justify) one subscription and had to choose, I would highly suggest Car Styling Magazine because of it's much broader scope of coverage. If you would like to subscribe to Car Styling Magazine (Note: the subscription is through Amazon.com so the price is in U.S. dollars), click here.
